Township of Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba – 0.63 ha - Menzione Geografica of Barolo

Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful menzione geografica. It is a long strip of land overlooking the rocks, or “rocche,” that it gets its name from. The term “rocche” also indicates very steep ground that is not easily cultivated and highly prone to erosion, covered in patches of forest. Our vineyard is located partly in the township of Castiglione Falletto and partly in Monforte d’Alba. It faces a south, southeasterly position and grows right up to the edge of a cliff that falls directly down to a wild deciduous forest. Its soil is loose and meager in nutrients with an emerging bedrock—thus shallow and dry in the summer and rich in calcareous marl and sandstone. It is necessary to intervene every so often, especially after harvest, and lay down manure to restore the soil structure and help the land retain water. It is one of our oldest vineyards, and we have cultivated it for over 80 years. It expresses the potential of the most elegant and mineral-tending Barolos.
