2004 Bodegas Arzuaga Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva
Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar:
Bright ruby. Oak-spiced cherry and raspberry aromas are complicated by suggestions of pipe tobacco, licorice and vanilla. Smoky and sweet on the palate, offering smooth red fruit compote flavors and a good wallop of sweet vanillin oak. Finishes spicy and broad, with supple tannins and lingering smokiness. Aficionados of old-school Spanish wines will appreciate this wine’s expression of sweet fruit and oak.
Decanter, 94 Points:
Discreet, opens up with elegance. Distinctive in mouth, with much class and a very Spanish style sophisticated, perfumed, fine nose, leather, tobacco maturity, silky, sweet, deliciously integrated and mature yet retains its vigour and life. Finishes long too. Perfect for current drinking. Classic, retro style.
