2006 Oddero Barolo Vignarionda 10-Year Riserva 1.5L
Wine Spectator: 95 Points
This is coming around, revealing cherry, menthol, tar, tobacco, leather and iron flavors. Complex, with terrific midpalate presence and dense tannins on the finish. The mineral finish is detailed and extensive. Best from 2019 through 2035. 250 cases made. (3/31/17)
Wine & Spirits: 95 Points and "Year's Best Barolo & Barbaresco"
The limestone-rich soils of Vigna Rionda typically yield a wine that’s long-lived yet slow to develop, so the Oddero family decided to extend its aging regimen beginning with the 2006 vintage. The wine rested in large Austrian casks for four and a half years and in bottle another five. It shows a delicate power and precision at 11 years of age, retaining some fresh fruit to balance the mature notes of truffles and dried red berries, with firm tannins that persist through a long, harmonious finish, suggesting the wine has yet to reach its peak. (Apr 2017)
James Suckling: 92 Points
This Barolo is tight and compacted, yet round, textured, and delicious. A gorgeous and almost exotic red. So much to enjoy here. Drink or hold. (12/5/16)
