2013 Stony Hill Chardonnay Spring Mountain Estate
Such an interesting wine! Out of the bottle it seemed a trifle awkward and even oxidized, but, as it warmed, it underwent a remarkable transformation. The most intriguing dried pineapple, clove spice and warm Meyer lemon notes emerged and it became as fresh tasting as can be. While it is very much driven by its fruit, the mountain mineral notes complete the structure of the wine. What it really reminds me of is a mountain version of Shafer’s Red Shoulder Ranch. My gut is that this wine is in its teenager-hood and really only needs more time to be at its best. Great with the chicken roulade.
