2014 PRIMA Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands

Prima Vini Wine Merchants:
At last, the fifth vintage of PRIMA Pinot Noir made at Testarossa under the guidance of winemaker Bill Brousseau is here!  It wasn’t easy. Our back label fell afoul of the TTB thanks to the word ‘Monterey’ which, I found out, can’t be legally combined with the word ‘hills’ when describing the source of a wine, but the vagaries of our alcohol bureaucracy notwithstanding, the first 10 cases of our 144 are in stock.  The 2014 is a vintage that displays its Santa Lucia Highlands roots with marvelous veracity and style. The cuvee, once again, was produced from several very well-known sites in these rolling Monterey County hills (see, I can say it here, just not on the label) with the help the same particularly magical lot from the Santa Maria Valley we’ve added before to add complexity and balance to a wine with such obviously great fruit.  Its personality leans more towards the red fruit side of the spectrum than the cooler, earthier 2013. It reminds us, in its youth, of the marvelous 2011.  Packed with cherry, pomegranate and red currants, there are also hints of dried orange peel, roasted green tea and tomato leaf in its already-complex, very vivid flavors.  We believe it will add even additional layers of flavor as time goes on and it will be an eminently worthy Pinot Noir with which to celebrate our 40th anniversary in May 2017.
