2018 Domaines des Pallieres Gigondas Les Racines
PRIMA Notes: Cuvée Les Racines showcases the vineyard parcels surrounding the winery—the origin of the domaine, including its oldest vines—with the emphasis on freshness and extravagant fruit. The 2018s were both wines of abundant richness imbued with a ton of fruit, but it was the older vines and glorious fruit of Les Racines that, for the third vintage in a row for us, emerged as our favorite of the two. Made from 80% Grenache, 8% Syrah, 7% Cinsault and 5% Clairette, this is, once again, an effusive, sexy wine with a nose of blackberry pie, olive tapenade and that elusive but prized aroma of garrigue- the smell of the hot summer Mistral and all that’s carried upon it. Big and powerful, this is one of the most hedonistic reds we’ve tasted to date from this very good vintage, and I hope you’ll pop the cork and enjoy it as soon as possible so I can get you some more! Still one of the best deals we know from the Rhone, it would be good to have some in the cellar!
