Sourced from a younger- now 10-year old- single block of Calera clone Chardonnay, and given roughly the same treatment in the cellar as its big brother, Le Debut goes through malo-lactic fermentation and is aged nearly a year in both used French oak barrels and egg-shaped concrete tanks. The resulting wine has that same luscious gold tinge you see in HdV’s regular cuvee and shares that wine’s signature crushed stone, apple blossom and almond paste nose.  Richly textural on the palate, the finish is crisp with a hint of lemon verbena and lime peel that leaves a distinctly Burgundian impression.  Pretty delicious if you ask me- a big time Chardonnay that costs a lot less than most of its peers.
