Gaja Grappa Gaia & Rey Chardonnay 375ml
Notes from the Producer:
The pomace of the Chardonnay grapes that were fermented separately are immediately taken to the distillery while still soft and juicy. The alambic still uses the vacuum method. At the start of the distillation process the grappa has an alcohol content of 70-75%.
Grape Variety: Chardonnay
Color: Crystal clear
Aroma: Herbaceous varietal aromas, warm and inviting.
Taste: On the palate, it is full and round, with spicy notes that are accentuated in the long, lingering finish.
91 points- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2010 vintage):
Good bright green-tinged yellow. Distinctly more Burgundian on the nose than the riper 2001, offering notes of fresh peach, apple and nut oil. Energetic and intense in the mouth, with a sexy sulfide nuance I associate with Burgundy. Finishes with noteworthy finesse, length and grip. An excellent showing, and built to age.
92 points- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2008 vintage):
The 2008 Gaia e Rey (Chardonnay) sweeps across the palate with layers of rich, expressive fruit. All of the elements are beautifully balanced in this soft, articulate Gaia e Rey. The 2008 is a gorgeous yet understated vintage for this wine. The 2008 was fermented in stainless steel, and was then moved into French oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation and aging. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
