About a decade has passed since Boroli’s 2015 Cerequio was harvested, so it’s time to revisit the wine from this iconic MGA that sits almost directly opposite Villero on the other side of the Alba-Barolo road. Boroli is one of only five producers bottling a Cerequio, and his parcel in this uniquely clefted MGA sits on the border between the La Morra and Barolo townships, bordering Brunate. This site has a more uniform Tortonian-La Morra makeup to its soils and produces wines that are notably sexier and more open than Villero, with a finer layer of gras over its ample but iron-y armature.

Of these two, this decade-old Cerequio is most likely to impress right out of the bottle as it wears its ‘tar-and-roses’ personality on its sleeve and really pumps out the cherry confit and spice flavors. But, certainly, it can still age every bit as well as Boroli’s Villero.
