The Barolo Bussia, on the other hand, stands in perfect contrast. While Brunate is one of the oldest cuvees in the Ceretto cellar (we also have a 1970 here at PRIMA!), Bussia is the newest- the 2016 being only the second vintage since they began vinifying the parcel. But what a parcel they have! Cut from the center of the cru, it sits in the Soprana subzone that produces the classic Monforte Nebbiolo. Altogether beefier and spicier than the Brunate, there is a heart of iron and mineral, dried herb and aniseed here, all wrapped in a cloak of redder, duskier fruit. There is also texture here, but the tannins kick in earlier, framing a big, tannic, mineral finish.  If it’s the classic Monforte Barolo you crave, this will provide decades of enjoyment.
