PRIMA Notes:  One of the new outposts in the Torres empire is in Costers del Segre, a particularly remote part of Catalonia in the rain shadow of the Pyrenees.  This is an ancient growing region with sparse rainfall and dramatic diurnal shifts between day- and nighttime temperatures.  Winegrowing here is not for the timid, but the local grapes like Cariñena and Garnatxa Negra (Carignan and Grenache Noir) thrive in these harsh conditions, as does the relative newcomer Syrah, and the Torreses have planted all three to create the dark, aromatic and flavorful red they call Purgatori.  

James Suckling: Dark cherries, plums, chocolate, vanilla and cedar on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with polished tannins. Layered and creamy. 92 points
