Considered by both the winery and Campania wine geeks (like our Tadd Tanji) to be a "baby Taurasi," this is a particularly beautiful expression of the Aglianico grape. The affable Rosanna Petrozziello and her lovely daughter Carla Giusy Favati hold all their wines back until they deem them ready to drink. So although Aglianico is well-known for its usually beastly tannins, this 2017 is actually the latest release from the winery and shows a properly aged, more approachable style of Aglianico that still has incredible life and energy.

We featured the Cretarossa in our Volcanic Wines of Italy class in December 2025, and it was a smashing success both there and on many a holiday table. We have just a few bottles left!

Looking for a nice white? Try I Favati's absolutely gorgeous 2023 'Pietramara' Fiano di Avellino. We can't stop ourselves from buying it.

Vinous, 92 points: The 2017 Campi Taurasini Cretarossa is darkly floral and brooding. It wafts up with a blend of dusty black currants, cedar shavings and balsamic spice. Energetic on the palate, it offers crisp wild berry fruits and mineral tones that coast across a wave of vibrant acidity.
