2017 Tobias Glen Vineyard "Jinsei" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Jinsei, a Japanese word meaning "life," perfectly captures this wine’s freshness, vibrancy, and graceful evolution over time.
We’ve very excited to feature the 2017 Jinsei Pinot Noir, a limited-production Pinot sourced from a spectacularly beautiful site in the Russian River Valley. Part of a 19-acre parcel that is a conservation forest, Tobias Glen Vineyard sustainably farms a mere 4 acres of vines. The parent company of Tobias Glen Vyd, California Wineries and Vineyards, purchased the property, thereby saving it from development and ultimately making some very delicious Pinot Noir for us to enjoy. Yeah!! Let’s hear it for CWV!
Taking a very minimalist approach to crafting the Jinsei Pinot Noir, winemaker Stephane Vivier of HdV fame (and his own eponymous label) expertly captures the essence of the cool Russian River climate. Its complexity, further enhanced with a few years of bottle age, is perfectly described in the reviews below so we won’t try to compete with their prose but we will definitely give it our enthusiastic approval.
We only have 48 bottles on hand at this writing and at the remarkably low price of $39.99 per bottle, it’s bound to disappear quickly. Order soon and count yourself among the lucky few to own some of this gorgeous wine. Cheers!
" Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir JINSEI Tobias Glen Vineyard opens slowly to warm black cherries, cranberries, woodsmoke, bergamot, dried flowers and a touch of tobacco and graphite. Medium-bodied, it’s wonderfully concentrated and savory, with meaty touches intertwined with the dark, ripe fruits, juicy, grainy and finishing long with lots of nuance. This has an appealing deeper, darker character than the rest of the lineup. California Winery & Vineyards is a new and very small project made by consulting winemaker Stéphane Vivier. " With an opening note of rose petal, this is a cool-climate styled wine, crisp and focused in texture and tension. Cherry cordial, wild strawberry, forest floor and black tea all figure into the silky, supple mix, finishing with a tease of power" Wine Enthusiast 93 points
