Brovia’s parcel is all of a half-hectare of vines planted back in 1975. The spot faces dead south and farmed organically by winemaker Alex Sanchez, by marriage, the fourth generation Brovia to farm the site.  While his cru Barolos get lots and lots of attention, it’s always been his Valmaggione that gets mine.  Called Valmaggionerather Valmaggioredue to a typo made many years ago and repeated for posterity (though, in recent vintages, the Brovias have eliminated the designation), this 100% Nebbiolo sees no wood, rather it is aged in steel for a year before about 200 cases are bottled.  An elegant wine with the texture of a red silk scarf that leads to hints of camphor, jasmine and spice., it’s medium-bodied and quite refined.  You’ll find it an excellent partner for current drink with all kinds of foods- maybe even a grilled salmon- as well as with the usual suspects.  Thoroughly delicious and quite sophisticated, especially for the money
