There are many who think this has become the top wine in the cellar as it shows all of the hallmark elegance and balance of this cellar.  To me it is always the wine I’d most want to use to show off the many attributes of Barolo in general rather than any particular aspect of a specific terroir.  The 2018 is absolutely beautiful!  I think it’s also a wine that is developing a sort of signature understatement and finesse that’s all Giorgio!

About the Vineyard Sites: Prior to 2009, Via Nuova was the local name of the vineyard that sweeps behind Chiara’s cantina just across from Barolo castle. With the arrival of the MGA in 2010, which codified the names of Barolo’s crus into law, the vineyard reverted to its traditional name of Terlo. At this time, Chiara decided to stop producing her Barolo Via Nuova as a single vineyard expression, and instead make it a classic Barolo blend from all of her plots: Terlo and Liste in Barolo; Gabutti and Baudana in Serralunga; and Ravera and Mosconi in Monforte. The total extension of vineyards is 2.5 hectares at an average of 340 meters over the three communes.

Wine Advocate: This is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is fermented in steel and aged in oak according to time-tested local tradition. This mid-weight blended Barolo has a more prominent herbal or balsam signature at the back of red and purple fruits, licorice and pressed violet. Production is 13,000 bottles. 94 points
