The Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore shows good concentration and a robust bouquet with dark fruit and nutty aromas that remind me of toasted hazelnuts or almonds. Those nutty aromas segue to earthy truffle and potting soil that are also specific to this bottle. Some of my favorite producers offer a Nebbiolo from the Valmaggiore cru in Roero on the left banks of the Tanaro River, and I always recommend them enthusiastically, both for the quality of the fruit and the competitive price points. This release shows a hint of white pepper at the back of its pretty, dark fruit.
