The 2018 Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port is a seriously classy young vintage Port from one of the Douro’s historic river estates, with a style that leans more perfumed and finely etched than hulking and monolithic. Expect a deep, inky core of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, laced with violets, dark chocolate, licorice and a graphite-laden mineral edge, all framed by firm but polished tannins and vibrant acidity. It’s delicious now with a long decant for all that Douro spice and cocoa to unfurl, but also built for the long haul—an excellent candidate to lay down and watch evolve over the next few decades.
