The importer wheel spins again and we are all the winners! Imagine Casanova di Neri’s transcendent 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova, always one of the most powerful and sought-after wines from any Brunello vintage, at $50 off a bottle! Giacomo Neri’s new California importer wants to concentrate on the 2020 vintage sitting in their warehouse and these last remaining four six-bottle cases of the 2019 must go! Works for me. The Tenuta Nuova is the most important wine at this seminal cantina, a level up in terms of concentration and depth with a more backwards, introverted profile that would require decanting now. Even after 30 months’ aging in 500-liter barrels, it’s still black as pitch and redolent of just-picked mulberry, freshly shoveled loam, black licorice stick and just-tanned leather. The true breed of this wine, though, shows up in its armature: those youthful tannins and that amazingly fresh acidity that serves to frame all that fruit and will insure many, many years improvement in the cellar.  It will definitely require some time to come out of its shell, but when it does, you’ll have absolutely one of the top wines of this really important vintage. Casanova di Neri is very much at the top of its game and this has been called, by many, one of the top wines of the harvest. Note that these bottles are not gray market wines and were imported by Giacomo Neri’s newly designated importer. First come….

Wine Advocate: In my mind, this is the wine that best represents the Casanova di Neri house style. With 30 months of aging in tonneaux, it shows enormous richness and texture, and the stellar fruit quality appears with more primary elegance compared to the more expensive Cerretalto that is released with an extra year of aging. That dynamic is especially pronounced in a comparison of the 2019 and 2018 vintages. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a dark vein of toasted spice, black fruit, ink, blackberry compote, licorice and star anise. Dark as night, it is exceptionally well crafted with a robust delivery of concentrated fruit and solid tannic structure. You can count on excellent cellar potential, or at a minimum, serve it with a classic steak. Production is exactly 69,696 bottles. 98 points

Jeb Dunnuck: A jeweled ruby color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova takes things to the next level at this estate. Offering a deeply layered bouquet of kirsch, dark chocolate, crushed rosemary, and lavender oils, on the palate it’s rich with flavors of blood orange oils, velvety tannins, warming spice, and a long finish that soars above and beyond, with saline accents taking it to the next level. The bouquet in incredible and keeps going for ages. It spent 36 months in 500-liter used barrels Drink 2026-2046 97 points
