The Petit is blended from around 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and a similar amount of Merlot (a portion of which dates from the 1850s) and the rest old vine Cabernet Franc and an ancient clone of Petit Verdot; it’s a gorgeously glossy red whose glorious fruit makes it a wine to enjoy now.  We loved the snapped pencil graphite notes that swirl around the wine’s core of crushed blackberry, espresso and wet earth notes.  Is that a hint of violet, too?  Rich and full on the palate, there’s enough heft to allow it to cellar an additional four or five years, but this is an immediate gratification special….one of those Bordeaux you can pop and pour to your heart’s content alongside steaks from the grill, roasts from the oven or even a great hamburger!  Very highly recommended and a very fine value.
