A delightful primer on the many attributes of the Nebbiolo grape, this lithe, aromatic beauty hails from the Giacosa family’s vineyard just on the Roero side of the Tanaro river, right across from the family’s holdings in the Neive commune of Barbaresco where they’ve been situated since late in the nineteenth century….right next to cousin Bruno’s cellar!  How they came to be there is a fun, only-could-happen-in-Italy story involving sharecropping, a fatal hunting accident, the invention of Fiat’s iconic Cinquecento and a winning lottery ticket!  None of that matters, though.  This is a traditional cellar making some very intriguing wines.  Not a lot of frou-frou in their 2021 Nebbiolo d’Alba, though. Just pure Nebbiolo fruit from very old, organically-farmed vines, aged ten months in old wood and rested a further year before being released.  It shows!  Lovers of the fragrant floral and dried earth (i.e. Tar and Roses) character of Nebbiolo will love the crystalline focus and finely delineated fruit of this stellar Nebb.  Pretty, tasty and eminently food friendly, it’s drinking very well right now and we look forward to drinking it over the next five or six years.  A nice discovery!  We liked it so much, we’ve put it on by the glass here in the Dublin wine bar so if you want to try before you buy, come have a taste on us.  Nice!
