When it comes to the production of old-school Napa Valley Cab, no one could beat ol’ Joe Heitz. His Highway 29 winery was established in 1961 and his style of complex, nuanced wine blended from some of the Valley’s most important sites hasn’t changed a lot in all these many decades. We love this wine’s character, its complexity and its ability to, with time in the cellar, develop into the kind of wine that put the Napa Valley on the world’s Cabernet map in the first place. Absolutely gorgeous!

Wine Spectator, 94 points: Ripe, fresh and focused, with a lovely beam of red currant plum coulis that stretches out alongside hints of savory, violet, tobacco and singed cedar. Finishes with a late twang of iron. Nicely done. Drink now through 2038.
