The smallest production in Sean’s cellar is the wine he calls ‘Uno,’ referring to the single grape variety used in the wine.  This is the flagship, Riserva-style wine of the estate and is sourced from the best Sangiovese grapes grown on the property in a given year. It sees 18 months of aging in a mix of tonneaux barrels (about 10% new), cement, and stainless steel. It’s the wine I think Sean has always wanted to make; it is both rich and lifted, delicate and powerful, austere at first but incredibly expressive, even when young. All the markings of one of the great wines of the world. Outrageously delicious, it is the least tamed, most edge-pushing wine he makes and an outstanding representation of what Sean is trying to create at Carleone. This is a must-have for lovers of great Tuscan reds.
