How good is this young Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir? Very good! Very good, indeed. Anthill, you might already know, works with six top cool-climate vineyards scattered around the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley, bottling each of them separately to much acclaim. But, to us, the wine assembled to show off the collective attributes of all these sites might outshine them all. And this very tasty 2022 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is, by far, the best Anthill blend we’ve tasted to date- and we’ve had quite a few! Not to make a mountain from this Anthill (?) let’s just say it’s a dark, very savory and extremely aromatic cool climate Pinot that hits all of the high notes we look for in the variety. While not overly extracted or alcoholic, there is plenty of palate weight here. In fact, it sort of glides like beautiful purple silk across the palate leaving in its wake the sweet essence of black cherry, cinnamon stick, mulberry, rose petal and a dash of salty sea air. It captures that ‘weight without heaviness’ we look for that keeps it food friendly and easy drinking at the same time. Man, they’re doing a great job here and we think this is $35 of your Pinot Noir budget very well spent.
