We hope this ‘Picqs’ your interest.

Just the other day, a customer asked for a recommendation of good Chablis and after going to the shelf, I realized that besides the delicious 2022 Orion Chablis AOC, we had none other in the house! For a store like ours filled with Burgundy lovers, that’s sort of a crisis! The very next day, our good friends at Vintage 59 Imports, told us the 2022 Gilbert Picq Chablis had arrived. At last! One of my absolute favorite producers and whose wines I have coveted ever since I visited the domaine several years ago was here. Wife Ellen will be rejoicing tonight! Located in the tiny village of Chichée, where their holdings in the surrounding hills include the two exquisite Premier Cru vineyards, Vosgros and Vaucoupin, brothers Didier and Pascal Picq make superb, mineral-driven wines that are the epitome of classic Chablis. The fresh, zingy 2022 Picq Chablis is sourced from twelve different parcels, all low-yielding vines that are, on average, 20 years of age. Winemaker Didier ferments the newly harvested grapes (lovingly farmed by Pascal) in stainless steel vats using native yeasts and eschewing the use of any sort of oak barrels. Striving for concentration and structure, the fermentation is longer than is typical but the results are simply stunning. It results in a wine that has tremendous length and crisp acidity, exactly what you’d expect in a bottle of well-made Chablis. With a bouquet of fresh fruit, underpinned by limestone minerality, it’s a thrilling taste experience and the perfect wine at the perfect time. I’m excited to share my love of Picq Chablis but let’s keep it on the down-low because the wines are extremely limited. In fact, we only have 60 bottles to share with the world!

Cheers, Frank Rothstein
