Giorgio Rivetti’s foray into western Tuscany has been the source of several stunning wines starting with, of course, his impressive and top-value Rosato (still $17.99 and in stock) of Prugnolo Gentile and Sangiovese and his two ethereal ten-year Riservae Sezzana and Sassontino.  But, while many people regard most Tuscan whites as being dull or lacking in character, Rivetti has doubled down and created one of the most scintillating whites we’ve ever tried from the region.  Using the local Vermentino- the sea breeze-loving grape one can find all the way down Italy’s Mediterranean coast- he’s fashioned a lively, fascinating white that positively shimmers with personality.  Offering a stunning combination of gorgeous, beautifully articulated flavors and bright, refreshing minerality, this salty, zingy white smacks more of the Ligurian coast to the north than western Tuscany.  Bravo to winemaker Giorgio Rivetti whose Tuscan project is now on a qualitative and stylistic par with any of his Piemonte projects.  It’s summer folks- and this fabulous white is dying to be introduced to grilled salmon off the grill, marinated grilled zucchini and lemon, smoked meats and just about anything else you can conjure.  Very highly recommended.
