Poderi Sanguineto

2022 Poderi Sanguineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

$49.99

80% Sangiovese, 20% Canaiolo Nero & Mammolo

There are Vino Nobiles that behave like polite, modern Tuscan reds, and then there is Sanguineto, which thankfully seems to have missed every memo about polish, gloss, and market research. Dora Forsoni farms her old Montepulciano vines organically, ferments with native yeasts, and ages the wine in large French and Slavonian botti, producing the kind of soulful, unhurried Sangiovese-based red that reminds you why this appellation mattered long before “Super Tuscan” was ever a thing.

Prugnolo Gentile (a Sangiovese clone), with supporting bits of Canaiolo and Mammolo, gives dark cherry, dusty earth, dried herbs, tobacco, and old-cellar savor, all carried by that unmistakable Tuscan combination of gentle grip and fine acidity. This is not a fruit bomb; it is dinner-table wine of the highest order—decant it, pour it with roast meats, ragù, wild mushrooms, pecorino, or a proper bistecca, and let it do what it has been doing for generations.
