The Turley Estate Zinfandel truly is a backyard wine, as it grows in the backyard of the family home. The six acres of vines are certified organic, head-trained, dry-farmed and were planted back in 2006 on the alluvial rich soil, with scatterings of obsidian. Native yeast fermentation. Aged using 80% used oak, 20% new; 80% French, 20% American (the only new barrels are French). Aromatically the Estate Zinfandel is floral, bright with fresh herbs, and rounded by notes of cherries and blackberries. On the palate the wine full of juice, sweet red fruits and has a long finish with extremely smooth tannins.

Wine Advocate: The 2022 Zinfandel Turley Estate is composed of three generations of plantings that commenced in 1996. Medium to deep ruby in the glass, it opens with pure, deep, characteristic aromas of grilled yellow peaches, red cherry, redcurrant, lavender, leather and angostura bitters, revealing finer detail as it spends time in the glass. The palate is massively rich, full-bodied and powerful, with a brooding density that melds with grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity. The finish is layered, dramatic and perfumed, with an overarching youthful density that will take a few years in bottle to unwind. This is a lovely effort that combines modern density with a classically framed structure. 95 points

Wine Spectator: Refined and polished, with a simmering power beneath the surface, offering expressive flavors of raspberry, garrigue and savory that gather richness toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2034. 94 points
