2022 Turley Zinfandel, Fredericks Vineyard, Sonoma Valley

$54.99

Fredricks Vineyard is located, most unusually along steep contoured terraces a mile and a half from the Napa border on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains. The head-trained vines, planted in 1937 grow on an ancient hillside 900 feet up in the new Moon Mountain AVA. The Zinfandel is harvested, pressed and fermented with all natural yeast. The wine is then aged for 15 months in barrel, of which 80% is used oak. 80% of the oak is French and the remaining 20% is American. Aromatically the wine is full of black and blue fruits, with blueberries, cassis, plums and sweet berry pie with a buttery crust. On the palate, there are hints of orange peel, ripe mixed fruits, with a full-bodied rich and lavish core lingering with silken tannins.

Wine Advocate: The 2022 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard is medium to deep ruby in the glass. It opens slowly but steadily with multifaceted aromas of peach skin, dried red berries, dark spices, wafts of cooling botanicals and a lifted, vibrant floral perfume. The full-bodied palate is suave, concentrated and polished, hiding rustic but gentle tannins and seamless, mineral-tinged acidity with its long, perfumed finish. As with much of the 2022 Turley Zinfandels, this should unwind and come into itself after 3-5 years in bottle and provide more than a decade of enjoyment in the cellar. 94+ points

Vinous: The 2022 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard is a rich, heady wine. Dark fruit, leather, tobacco, dried herbs and cured meats are all dialed up. Ample and resonant, with tons of brooding power, the 2022 shows off the more virile side of Zinfandel to great effect. 94 points
