Located in the tiny village of Chichée, where their holdings in the surrounding hills include the two exquisite Premier Cru vineyards, Vosgros and Vaucoupin, brothers Didier and Pascal Picq make superb, mineral-driven wines that are the epitome of classic Chablis. The fresh, zingy 2022 Picq Chablis is sourced from 12 different parcels, all low-yielding vines that are, on average, 20 years of age. Winemaker Didier ferments the newly harvested grapes (lovingly farmed by Pascal) in stainless steel vats using native yeasts and eschewing the use of any sort of oak barrels. Striving for concentration and structure, the fermentation is longer than is typical but the results are simply stunning. It results in a wine that has tremendous length and crisp acidity, exactly what you’d expect in a bottle of well-made Chablis. With a bouquet of fresh fruit, underpinned by limestone minerality, it’s a thrilling taste experience and the perfect wine at the perfect time.
