It seems like we’ve been waiting all spring for this wine!  Well, maybe not this exact wine, but for just this kind of truly delicious, true-to-type white Burgundy we can afford to drink every day.  And, there it was, right under our noses.  Marie-Pierre Manciat’s importer told us he’s been importing Manciat-Poncet since their very first container from France way back in 1991 and there’s been this Macon Blanc on every one of their containers since!  And we have a long history with the wine here at PRIMA, too.  It was a longtime favorite on our by-the-glass list in the restaurant and it had quite a following in the store too.  Don’t know how we lost track of it, but we’re remedying that oversight right now.  As traditional as it gets, Marie-Pierre’s mom and dad first started bottling their two wines back in the 1980s from grapes the family traditionally grew to sell to larger producers.  With vineyards both in Charnay, near the town of Macon, and in Pouilly-Fuisse, they make only two wines.  The latter is more serious, sees some wood, and is more expensive than the former, which is as pure and lovely as Chardonnay ever gets and never sees the inside of a barrel.  All hand-harvested (rare in this neck of woods) and minimally handled, the 2023 Macon-Charnay is just the white Burg we were hunting for. Bright, fresh and clean, there is older vine depth and character here too. Green apple or Bosc pear fruit mingles with hints of white flowers, green tea, a dash of citrus oil and, of course, that classic siphoned-through-stone mineral finish one expects from the best sites in the Macon, it’s a lovely glass of Chard you’ll love all on its own or with all kinds of fare.  I thought of chicken or game hens grilled with lemon and tarragon.  Pro tip- Don’t serve this lovely little house white too cold
