The affable and driven Elise Semino has become (after the iconic Walter Massa) the best-known producer in all of the Derthona appellation! A passionate advocate for the region, she, along with her father and brother, serves as one of the area’s most ardent ambassadors and her La Colombera wines have become benchmarks for both the up-and-coming Timorasso grape and for the entire Colli Tortonesi, this less-traveled region in Piemonte’s northeast.

This is one of the purest, most savory and most delicious versions of Timorasso you’ll ever taste. It’s a saline, mineral-driven white with an evanescent palate that some find reminiscent of a fine Vouvray from France’s Loire Valley but with a unique aromatic profile all its own. Persistent, resinous and long, we love this wine’s fresh apricot, Asian pear and spice flavors and that vivid flinty finish serves to remind you that these ancient Tortonian soils were once under the sea. This is a lovely wine that really comes into its own with richer fare: a creamy poultry stew, cacio e pepe, smoked meats or some of that delicious La Tur cheese made in Alta Langa, about an hour’s drive from Colli Tortonesi.

And here’s another pro tip: Timorasso can really age well and with a few years, it develops a broad, complex set of flavors that are truly incomparable.
