This Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Rouge cuvée is a gorgeous Pinot Noir made from 50-year-old, steeply sloped vines at the highest part of the appellation. Loving the grapes’ natural acidity and structure in 2023, he decided to produce it sans soufre, or completely unsulfured, something he would never conceive with his domaine wines. Aged only in a single Stockinger cask from Austria, this singularly charming Pinot Noir was bottled just as finished in barrel—unsulfured, unfined and unfiltered. This is the kind of wine that gives both Burgundy and ‘natural’ winemaking good names!

We love the sheer purity of the Pinot fruit, lacy and fragrant but also firm with a core of yellow cherry (rather than the darker Bing, say) with lifted notes of plum, mulberry and cinnamon spice that vie for your attention. This is a decidedly elegant, ultra-stylish wine that channels Duband’s legendary attention to detail while showing the fruit-driven heft of the 2023 vintage and plenty of that only-possible-in-Burgundy minerality and class. Drink it tonight with a lamb burger or steak or give it another four or five years in the cellar. 

This is a pretty exciting venture that brings the quality of Duband to those of us who can only wish they could buy his Echezeaux!

The problem? Production is miniscule and our allocation is a mere 12 bottles.
