2024 Andre & Michel Quenard Savoie Blanc 'Les Abymes'
The 2024 Quenard Savoie Blanc is 100% Jacquère, a regional grape variety that is unique to this part of France and well-suited to the alpine climate, where it yields a wine that is crisp and lively, with a citrus-like aroma and sleek texture on the palate. It is sourced from Les Abymes, one of Savoie’s top crus, along with Apremont. As you probably know, the Savoie region is a skiing mecca in the winter months but in the spring and summer, its appeal is equally inviting. The normally cool temperatures are replaced with abundant sunshine, creating the perfect environment for outdoor activities and, more importantly, grape-growing on the rocky hillsides. The wines, both white and red, are generally lower in alcohol, making them easy to enjoy and even easier to pair with foods.
The 2024 Quenard Jacquère is a wonderful partner to the hearty but simple cuisine of the region, from simply prepared fish, roast chicken with fresh herbs, steamed vegetables and, of course, the amazing cheeses produced there by the livestock that graze in the verdant hills. We love the fact that, even though it’s a mere 11% alcohol, it’s packed with flavor and its mouthwatering acidity makes it a fabulous drink. Oysters are not something you equate with the Savoie but, hey, they would be a great pairing!
Fabulous price on a fabulous wine.
