We’ve got a few really delicious chillable reds in stock right now but most come from the cooler north of Italy.  This guy comes from Sicily and is delicious! 

We seldom associate ‘chillable reds’ with Sicily but, in Vittoria, on the island’s southwestern ‘horn,’ grows the wild Frappato, one of the funnest, most-chillable red grape varieties in the country.  Normally added as a ying to the yang of the dark red, very spicy and intense Nero d’Avola (or maybe it’s the other way around, I always get yin and yang confused) to create the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG red, Frappato brings a super stylish burst of vibrant red berries, a whiff of white pepper and a head shop’s worth of incense aromas to the party.  When bottled on its own, its low tannins and high acidity make for a salty, crunchy, aromatic and delightful drink. The Gurrieri family’s Frappato is organically farmed, carefully made and, to our minds, one of the most perfect reds one can open this summer when there is a tableful of picnic fare to be had.  And with a spicy pasta dish using all those tomatoes from the garden?  Perfetto!  Drink now- with a chill or not- and get your summer in Sicily on!  By the way, this wine was one of the biggest hits at our Summer Open House earlier this month.  And everyone just loves saying- repeat after me- Fra-pppppppp-ahto!  Get some.
