Colorado is HERE Ya'll: OLD ELK DISTILLERY
Colorado is truly making a name for itself in the whiskey world with names like Stranahan's and Tin Cup, but what is it about the 38th state that makes it unique?
We all know, the best whiskeys use the best water. Colorado Distilleries have something that may give them a leg up on all other major distilleries in the country: The Rocky Mountain snowmelt, high altitude, and a serious hunger for using the best ingredients locally found to the unique terrain.
Old Elk, founded in 2013, has long time veteran Greg Metze at the healm as Master Distiller. After a 38 year tenure at Seagram's, Greg has leveraged his technical background and acquired knowledge of distillery practices to produce products that customers appreciate. He shares his passion and experience with others by leading the distilling team and practicing the fine art of producing premium distilled spirits. Greg was able to create his own mash bill and use their patented "Slow Cut" proofing process that makes Old Elk special. It may take longer, but this burns off any of those lighter, finer flavors giving a finished product that has bold yet balanced taste.
The Old Elk recipe includes three quality ingredients – malted barley, rye, and corn. By investing in our bourbon and using four times more malted barley than traditional recipes, the bourbon generates sweet components. The malted barley, combined with spicy essence of clove from the rye, and the traditional rich bourbon character from the corn, creates the overall robust taste profile.
