Friday Follies Visits Piemonte

I got yelled at by Frank for having too much wine from the Langhe (and not enough Champagne) in the house, so I thought I’d appease him and trim some of our inventory. There are some real gems here, albeit in very small quantities! If you have some holes in your collection or want to discover exciting new producers like Elio Sandri, La Briccolina or Marco Marengo, this is your chance.

Frist come- first served.

All estate Perno and Villero fruit from younger vines in a Baby Barolo style. Delicious!

2022 Currado-Penna Langhe Nebbiolo

The debut effort from the dynamic duo who were so long the heart and soul of Vietti!

2021 Ca del Baio Barbaresco ‘Asili’
$54.99- $46.74
Probably the best deal here! The Grassos pride and joy from one of the best vineyards in Piedmont!

2019 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco
$54.99- $46.74
The benchmark against which all other Barbarescos are measured

2020 Trediberri Barolo ‘Berri’
$62.99- $53.54
Like Sandri and Roagna, the wines here represent the future of the Langhe as well as its past. Very highly recommended.

2020 Mario Marengo Barolo ‘Bricco delle Viole’
$66.99- $56.94
Marco Marengo is a sweetheart and his wines reflect his sunny (and slightly reticent) personality. Bricco delle Viole!

2019 Albino Rocca Barbaresco ‘Ronchi’
$74.99- $63.74
Another stupendous effort from the Rocca sisters! Totally surprised we even had this….

2015 Massimo Martinelli Barolo ‘'Bricco Mollea - 'come io sento io' $79.99-$67.99
Massimo Martinelli was, for over 50 years, the winemaking force behind Renato Ratti and his Bricco Mollea wines are a retirement gift to himself (and us). So elegant!

2020 F.lli Cigliuti Barbaresco 'Serraboella'
$89.99- $76.49
To my way of thinking, the Cigliutis are making the best wines in Neive! Filled with class and lovely understatement.

2019 La Briccolina Barolo ‘Briccolina’
$99.99- $84.99
Lovely, classic Serralunga Barolo from one of its real up-and-coming producers. Wonderful spot (bordering Ornato and Vignarionda) and very old vines- a virtual monopole of the Grasso family. Wonderful!

2017 Elio Sandri Barolo ‘Perno Riserva’
$99.99- $84.99
It’s only a matter of time before Sandri’s wines become the cult favorites they are in the rest of Europe. Impressive depth and all of Monforte’s power! Very highly recommended.

$104.99- $89.24
Another Easter egg we found in the cellar. 5 bottles

$96.99- $82.44
2020 Elio Altare Barolo ‘Arborina’
$129.99- $110.49
Altare needs no introduction here but Giarborina might- it’s a ‘Super Langhe Nebbiolo’ made entirely from Arborina vines aged in small barrels. It’s succulent, savory and a wonderful 2016.

2018 Roagna Barbaresco ‘Faset’
$174.99- $148.74
2018 Roagna Barolo ‘Pira’
$174.99- $148.74
Incredible, incredible- No sure why we still have these. A friend of mine just told me a recent bottle of the Barbaresco was as memorable as it comes.
