Born in the 19^th century and later championed by “Pappy” Van Winkle himself, Old Fitzgerald’s 7 Year Bottled in Bond is an especially polished, charming wheated bourbon (and perfect if you’ve given up trying to find Weller these days!). At the federally mandated 100 proof, it leans into layers of vanilla, caramel, honey graham cracker and baking spice, with softer notes of banana bread, baked apple and cherry drifting around the edges. The finish brings more oak, leather, brown sugar and cinnamon, staying warm but never harsh, which makes it a great end-of-night pour or an upscale house bourbon for Old Fashioneds and sipping neat.
