2021 Pope Valley Winery Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley 

In spring, a wine lover’s fancy turns to nice, cold glasses of fresh Sauvignon Blanc.  But, oh my, how the prices for our favorites from California (and France, and New Zealand and EVERYWHERE) have risen recently.  But wait!  How about the 2021 Pope Valley?  Made under the watchful eye of Jean Hoefliger, the same winemaker behind the outstanding (but sold out) AXR SB, this is another immaculately balanced, melon-y and minerally offering that shows the prettier side of this grape.  Lively, packed with flavor and ready for all your backyard fare, this is an excellent value in a category with a dearth of them lately.  Great as an apertivo too!
