Widow Jane 10 Year Bourbon, Tequila Ocho Cask Finish

This is a very cute, very delicious example of “I scratch your back; you scratch mine.” In 2022, Tequila Ocho sourced used bourbon barrels from New York’s Widow Jane in which to rest their reposado and añejo, and it grew into a limited series that got greedily gobbled up in no time. (Did any of you get to snag a bottle??) Last year, Widow Jane returned the favor and secured a bunch of barrels that Ocho had already used, bringing a distinctive but subtle tequila essence to Widow Jane’s 10-year-aged bourbon through 8 months of finishing in Ocho wood. This is Ocho's very first time they’ve ever collaborated with a bourbon producer, so for those of you who equally love whiskey and tequila like I do, this is an absolute gem—not a gimmick, no games.

Of the some-2,000 cases produced, only 50-ish were allocated for the entire state of California, so we count ourselves lucky that we could snap one up. This is not a whiskey that tastes of tequila or a tequila that tastes like whiskey. It’s a beautifully made bourbon whose characteristic richness is lifted by herbal, citrusy, peppery pops. Even I was dubious at first, but, boy, I am glad I decided to jump on the opportunity to bring some in. I don't foresee many dynamic collaborations like this (I hope I'm wrong), so don't miss out!
