Colheita Ports are Tawnies which come from a single vintage and are  aged in 550 L old barrels for a minimum period of 7 years prior to  bottling. This wine is a delicious way to end off a meal and also  matches very well with desserts, dried fruit or as an aperitif served  with foie gras. Vinification: After several very dry winters, 2006/07 allowed the replenishment of  the water levels in the soils. In 2007 at Vale de Mendiz, the harvest  began on 14 September, and despite a brief storm on 16 September and  light rainfall towards the end of the month the harvest took place under  excellent weather conditions. During fermentation, the musts were  already showing powerful and dense colour as well as beautiful natural  acidity, which allowed us to forgo any significant adjustments. The  grapes were foot-stomped in lagares and aged in our cellars at Vila Nova  de Gaia, in 550L pipa barrels. At Niepoort, we bottle our Colheita  Ports after a minimum maturation period of 10 years, and the 2007  vintage was no exception, with the first bottling taking place in March  2018. Tasting Notes: An intense brick-red colour with chestnut hues accompanies  mouth-watering fresh aromas of candied fruit, particularly plums and  figs, as well as a touch of smokiness. The palate is refreshing, with  good acidity and abundant fruit, leading to a dry, elegant and  seductively long finish.
