WINE DESCRIPTION - The Greco variety was originally cultivated on the slopes of Vesuvius, where it was given the name Lacryma Christi. It was later planted in the province of Avellino, where it was given the denomination Greco di Tufo. The refined personality of the wine is in sharp contrast with the wild nature of the Irpinia, where it is made. This contrast is the result of the area’s dedication to simplicity which has been refined by years of winemaking. “Loggia della Serra” is the name of the vineyard in Montefusco at 600 m above sea level. It means “terrace on
the vineyards”.

Prima Notes: The name Mastroberardino is synonymous with the lovely wines of Campania, both at the venerable Mastroberardino estate and, since 1978, Terredora di Paolo (Mastroberardino). Both have been instrumental in making grapes like Aglianico, Falanghina and Fiano household names in faraway places like the United States.  One white grape that has so far missed out on the party is the very old fashioned but completely unique Greco.  Dating from a time when the Greeks dominated southern Italy (hence its name), it’s a stubborn, survivor type of cultivar that grows best under the toughest of circumstances, providing paltry crops of intensely flavored wine with a distinctive golden color and some amazing aromatics.  Terredora’s thrives in a particularly inhospitable vineyard sitting at over 600 meters on chalky limestone, producing a wine of outstanding character.  Deeply golden with a greenish edge, you can almost taste that sensuous southern Italian sunshine in every glass. Richly textural, there are intriguing nuances of white flowers, citrus fruit, dried honey and ripe pear and crisp apple.  The wine’s fine natural acidity merges well with its oppulent texture and finishes with all the mineral one expects from a wine grown on pure tufo rock! This is Mozzarella cheese territory, and a salad of the best-available burrata or Mozzarella di Bufala, wild greens, shaved fennel, some blood orange slices, sea salt and the finest olive oil you can find to pair with your Greco is one of life’s real pleasures, but Linguine con Vongole, grilled tuna in a spicy brodo or even those chicken wings you ate at yesterday’s Super Bowl party would work just as well!  And make sure you get enough to have over this summer too!  It drinks very well on its own.

TASTING NOTES - Pale medium gold color. Rich and powerfully aromatic nose of apricot, apple, peach, and citrus. Full bodied, soft and well balanced with excellent acidity.
